The Shot Exhibition – Photography Through Time poster
The Photography Studio at Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi, presents an exhibition titled ‘The Shot’, featuring original prints of photographs taken in the early 1840s and images by the first photo and cinecameras. This is the inaugural exhibition for the collection in the Middle East.
The exhibition presents a rare selection of historical images by internationally renowned photographers who documented inspiring moments in the pioneering past. The works exhibited include photographs of prominent political, artistic and literary figures from 1840 to the present day.
Viewers will appreciate the artistry of these photographers, who excelled in creativity despite the simplicity of their cameras and photographic equipment at the time. Visitors will also encounter works that have been creatively edited using modern techniques, in ways that enhance the play of light and shadow. This gives an added value and refinement to the black and white essence of the photographs, inviting the viewer to quietly contemplate each image as it evokes questions such as: ‘What were the techniques employed by photographers at that time which enabled them to innovate on their journey and to create the images they left for us, as witnesses to that era?’ This exhibition aims to provide a reverse reading of the creative processes used in each image and to highlight the developments and advances made in photography over the years.
In addition, it aims to provide an opportunity for discerning photography fans to see the images of famous and historic figures, whose names include Henri Cartier-Bresson, Ansel Adams, Robert Capa and Philippe Halsman.
